Microsoft reveals 2 million users of iOS 5 Hotmail, growing 100K each day

Hotmail usage on iOS 5
Microsoft revealed on Wednesday that over 2 million Hotmail customers have enabled their account using Apple’s new iOS 5 add account feature.
Microsoft’s Windows Live chief, Chris Jones, revealed the statistics in a blog post on Wednesday. Microsoft added support for Exchange Active Sync on Hotmail last year and mobile devices have been taking advantage of the feature ever since. Apple never shipped an “add account” step for Hotmail on its original iOS software. iOS 5 introduced Hotmail into the default mail settings and over 2 million people have connected Hotmail to their iPhone and iPad devices. “Almost 100,000 new iOS 5 devices are being set up with Hotmail every day,” revealed Jones.
The timing of Microsoft’s stats comes just hours after Google released a Gmail application for iOS 5. Google was forced to pull the application following a major notifications bug. “The iOS app we launched today contained a bug with notifications,” said a Google spokesperson. “We have pulled the app to fix the problem. Sorry we messed up.” Microsoft seized the opportunity to remind people of Hotmail and Jones was quick to note that Hotmail on smartphones works across Windows Phone, Nokia, Android and BlackBerry devices. “So, whatever phone you have, it’s a great time to switch to Hotmail,” he added.
