Recently many new features were added to Windows Live Hotmail. I thought, out of those, the feature of recovering deleted emails from Inbox might interest a lot of people, as many times we accidently delete Emails. So here are some more details about this email recovery feature.
Earlier one could make a request to the good folks at Hotmail, who would be kind enough to help you out. But now Hotmail provides a link in the Deleted Folder to recover messages deleted from your Inbox.
Once you click on this ‘Recover Deleted Messages’ link, Hotmail tries to recover all deleted messages back. And once recovered the recovered messages should be moved from here to Inbox or other folder as the Deleted folder gets cleaned up periodically and you might loose them permanently. If you don’t see the message you wanted , it means they have been permanently lost.
This feature is disabled for child accounts. Child accounts will not be able to recover emails that were deleted by Parents to comply with Family and Safety rules.
One can also opt out of this feature if one doesn’t want this feature.
This option is found in Hotmail from Options > More Options > Customizing Hotmail > Advanced Privacy settings > Deleted Messages.
Choose the option – Don’t let me recover deleted messages – once they leave the Deleted folder, don’t give me a link to get them back.
DO NOTE THAT ONCE YOU DISABLE THIS FEATURE, YOU’LL NOT BE ABLE TO TURN IT BACK ON – AND YOU WILL NOT GET THE ‘RECOVER DELETED MESSAGES’ LINK BACK.
So be careful in disabling & saving this feature.
